Sparkling
Les Chemins d'Avize
Champagne (Avize)
Sourced from two small plots planted in the 1950s and '60s on Avize's poorest, chalkiest ground - fermented in small Austrian oak casks with just 2 grams of dosage, about as little sweetness as Champagne gets. Expect citrus, chalk dust and a slow-unfurling mineral energy that rewards patience more than most Champagne asks for.
Vintages
- 2013
A late-ripening year with naturally high acidity, producing good, age-worthy Champagne without the immediate generosity of a warmer vintage.
- 2012
A small-yielding year - frost, hail and mildew all took their toll - but the wines that resulted are precise, structured, and built to age, among the most respected vintages of the decade.
