Pierre Beauger

Pierre Beauger left home, trained for a decade under pioneering natural winemakers including Marcel Richaud and Thierry Puzelat, then came back to his native Auvergne in 2001 to do something almost nobody was doing there: replant abandoned vineyards on the region's volcanic soil.

His wines carry no appellation at all — they're bottled as simple Vin de France, partly because Auvergne's old winegrowing tradition had nearly died out and partly because Beauger farms and vinifies in a way the regional rulebook was never written to accommodate: no herbicides, no synthetic treatments, minimal sulfur, and a style shaped entirely by volcanic rock rather than a name on a label.
