Armand Heitz

The family's Burgundy roots trace to 1857, but the estate as it exists today is Armand Heitz's own project, rebuilt piece by piece since 2011 from land his mother inherited in Meursault, Pommard, Volnay and Chassagne-Montrachet.

He actually tried biodynamics first, farmed that way for five years, then walked away from it — not out of skepticism about organics, but because he wanted to go further, toward a full agroforestry and polyculture model closer to how the land was farmed before chemical inputs existed at all. It's a rare case of a young Burgundy producer deciding the fashionable answer wasn't ambitious enough.
