Domaine Fourrier

Domaine Fourrier's Gevrey-Chambertin vines — some 60 to 100 years old, in genuinely fabled sites — went through a quiet slump in the 1980s before Jean-Marie Fourrier took over in 1994 at just 23, trained by Henri Jayer, arguably the most influential Burgundy winemaker of the 20th century.

He turned the estate into a benchmark for transparent, terroir-first winemaking almost overnight. Prices have since caught up with the reputation, but early vintages from his tenure — 1995, 1998, 2001, 2002 — are still considered some of the best value left in serious Burgundy, next to far more famous names charging considerably more.
